University of North Texas
Graduate Students in English Association (GSEA)
GSEA is an organization dedicated to promoting the success of all graduate students in English at the University of North Texas. Our goal is to foster a healthy graduate student body through community, professionalization, and support.
Community
GSEA provides a community for graduate students through diverse social activities and unique events. Statistics show that graduate students often feel lonely and isolated. GSEA seeks to solve this problem by facilitating much-needed community building. From our welcome back socials to late night laser tag, GSEA is a great place for new graduate students to make connections and returning graduate students to maintain community.
Professionalization
Professionalization is an important part of formation for graduate students. GSEA offers strategic professionalization through our own regional conference (Critical Voices) as well sponsoring afternoon seminars and lectures with experienced faculty and doctoral candidates. Whether you need resume advice or help finding funding for research and travel, GSEA is here to help.
Support
GSEA offers support to members, from academic and formational to vocational and financial. Each semester, GSEA sponsors a term paper bootcamp to help students academically. In additional to our professionalization workshops, GSEA also offers mentoring to aid in graduate student success. Many students in GSEA are also Teaching Fellows or Teaching Assistants, and GSEA offers teaching materials and access to grading support for these members. Our many dropboxes offer access to syllabi and assignment ideas for teachers as well as sample reading lists for students completing coursework. Lastly, GSEA offers financial assistance through travel grants and scholarships to members each year.
